Commenting on the announcement of the route for the Aberdeen Bypass announced today, Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce said:
"Today's announcement is good news for the whole of the North East - it will cut congestion, reduce pollution and boost the economy across the area. Coupled with the associated important transport improvements this will lay the foundation for the future the North East's transport infrastructure."
"I am also pleased that the compromise on route will not impact on the Camphill Complex, which is a testament to the dedication of local campaigners to secure the best option for our area.
"I have been involved in the campaign for the WPR since I was elected in 1983 on the grounds that the bypass is crucial for the future development of our area - a campaign which had been ignored by successive Conservative and Labour Governments.
"While the consultation process has been a necessarily long one, I am pleased that the route is the best option for both local residents and businesses alike. The Bypass will still have to go through the regular planning process and should be completed by 2011 and as such, I am eager that work should begin as soon as is practical."
