Malcolm Bruce is challenging BAA on behalf of residents near Aberdeen Airport wanting to receive fair compensation for noise levels

Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has called on BAA Scotland to give a fairer deal to local residents affected by noise levels around Aberdeen Airport, to bring them into line with support given to residents near English airports.

British Airports Authorities (BAA) currently issue grants to help with noise reduction measures at their English Airports for residents affected by noise levels above an average of 66db. However, there is no similar package in place for affected residents at Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

Mr Bruce, the MP for Dyce, where Aberdeen Airport is located, has contacted BAA Aberdeen executives directly to raise the issue following complaints from local residents about the level of aircraft noise. He has also raised the issue in Parliament as a co-sponsor of a parliamentary motion.

Commenting Malcolm Bruce said:

"BAA Aberdeen has made no mention of compensation for local residents in their latest response to me. Given the anomaly with their English counterparts however, I hope to take up the offer of a meeting with the Managing Director to discuss this matter further.

"It is only fair and sensible for the same level of help with noise mitigation to be offered to residents of Dyce and other Scottish airports when is it is already available in England.

"BAA has a good record for listening to legitimate community concerns and I feel sure that they will engage with the community again on this matter. I look forward to raising these points in our next meeting."

If you are a resident of the Gordon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
