Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce is encouraging local people to submit nominations for the annual Countryside Alliance Awards.
The aim of the awards is to build on the success of the Best Rural Retailer competition, and to acknowledge those who are contributing to national, devolved and local politics. Malcolm Bruce is a strong supporter of rural involvement in politics, believing that with the activism of local people, people, businesses and rural causes will have a strong chance of gaining national recognition through these prestigious awards.
He said:
"Aberdeenshire is privileged to be the home of some of the country's best independent producers, businesses and grassroots politicians who want to make a difference. Not only does our countryside produce great food, but great people and culture. Nominating our best people and businesses give us all an opportunity to show the nation what the North East has to offer."
Anyone can nominate a local individual or business in one of five categories: local food, village shop/post office, enterprise, best traditional business and rural hero of the year. Nomination forms can be made online at www.countrysideallianceawards.co.uk. This year the Countryside Alliance Awards are also honouring politicians, which can be nominated for one of three awards: Grassroots, Westminster and Rural Vision. The closing date for nominations is 27 October 2008.
