Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce is encouraging local teenagers to submit articles to a national business writing competition.
The competition launched by ifs School of Finance aims to improve national writing standards by providing feedback to participants from Peter Taylor, City Correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. Malcolm Bruce believes some of the brightest minds in the nation come from the North East of Scotland, and is encouraging local teens to participate.
He said:
"This competition fosters better writing standards and encourages young people not only to address relevant and important issues, but hopefully it will also persuade them to consider a possible future in business or finance.
"I want to encourage all those budding journalists in Aberdeenshire to enter the competition in order to broaden their writing skills and learn from a professional business journalist. I wish all participants success in their writing."
Any teenager between the ages of 14 and 19 may participate, and must write a 1,000 word article entitled, "Should Government encourage home ownership?" A cash prize of £500 will be awarded to the winner of the competition. Entries may be submitted by email to ybwy@ifslearning.ac.uk by Monday 26 January 2009.
