BRUCE WELCOMES TRUMP DECISION: CALLS FOR 'CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT' WITH PLANNERS

November 5, 2008 12:00 PM

Gordon Liberal Democrat MP, Malcolm Bruce, has welcomed the decision to give a qualified go-ahead to the Trump Golf Development at Menie Park, Balmedie in his Westminster constituency and called for a constructive engagement between the Trump organisation and the local council to address the local environmental concerns as constructively as possible.

Golf Course in NE ScotlandResponding to the announcement, Mr Bruce said: "This is inevitably a controversial decision but, on balance, I believe it is the right one. Ministers have given a go ahead in principle but it is subject to legal agreement between the Trump organisation and Aberdeenshire Council.

"I would urge both parties to engage constructively to ensure that the legitimate environmental concerns are addressed as far as possible and that the resulting development is a credit to the North East of Scotland.

"A volatile oil price reinforces the need for the North East economy to diversify. Nevertheless, many people have questioned how many permanent jobs will be created and of what quality. Assuming the Trump organisation are still committed to the development I hope they will be able to spell this out in some detail in the coming months."

Mr Bruce will be seeking further meetings with Trump representatives to discuss their future plans.

If you are a resident of the Gordon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
