Malcolm Bruce, the MP for Gordon has met with Tesco to discuss the differential in petrol prices at the company's stores in his North East constituency.
The meeting followed an exchange of correspondence after Mr Bruce complained that the price difference between stores in Aberdeen and those in more rural areas differed by as much as 5p per litre.
Commenting after the meeting Mr Bruce explained,
"I am pleased that petrol prices have come down from their peak and that Tesco's Inverurie store is now offering the same price as Aberdeen.
"However, there is still a 2 to 3 pence differential in Ellon and Huntly and Tesco have not explained why this is other than to quote competition.
"I pointed out that many Ellon residents commute to Aberdeen and will simply fill up there but those who do not have that chance are being penalised."
He added:
"Huntly is at the centre of a large rural area where people are very dependent on their cars. "Both these communities look to Tesco to give value for money.
"I have asked the company to look again at their pricing policy and consider passing on the benefits Inverurie now receives to Ellon and Huntly."
