Speaking in the House of Commons today, Gordon MP and Chair of the International Development Select Committee, Malcolm Bruce delivered a robust speech in the debate on the Gaza Crisis.
Malcolm raised the plight of the civilian population in the House of Commons debate on Gaza
He said:
"Bad and intolerable as the situation has been over the last two years, what has happened over the last three weeks has escalated the suffering, stress and the humanitarian trauma to the civilian population beyond anything that can be justified by any provocation and I am actually appalled at some Members of this House trying to justify that degree of disproportionate action.
"322 children have absolutely no responsibility for any of this and they are dead. That is not something we can standby and accept."
Referring to the role of the UK and the International Community he added:
"If we don't take firm action and give a real lead in delivering a proper peace process we may well create a united Palestinian entity- but it will be Hamas!"
"It is not just that Israel must recognise its responsibilities as a legitimate state and as a member of UN and all the obligations that entails, but that the international community and particularly the UK which had such a crucial role in the creation of the State of Israel, will be tainted by association on breaches of international law, flagrant disregard of UN resolutions and possible perpetration of war crimes if we fail to act- then we will tarnished by association of collective guilt.
"That is what our citizens are saying to our Government. They want our Government in concert with others to try and ensure a resolution."
