Aberdeenshire due to complete switchover to digital in 18 months time
Speaking after Digital UK announced the timetable for North East Scotland to make the switch to digital TV, Malcolm Bruce spoke of the challenges ahead in making sure that everyone in the stv North region is geared up for the changes.
Speaking at the Scottish Liberal Democrat Conference in Perth at the weekend, Mr Bruce said:
"A lot of work will need to be done over the next year to make sure that everyone is fully aware of the impact of the digital switchover and that they have the necessary equipment and support in place.
"I will be working with Digital UK and the BBC, which runs the Switchover Help Scheme for older and disabled people, over the coming months to make sure that all my constituents have access to the information they need. Choice is important here and I will also be continuing to campaign for the necessary upgrade of transmitters so that households are not limited to a Digital 'Light' service with limited options in accessing television channels and services."
Former Grampian TV man Alan Cowie, who joined the Digital UK team in summer 2008, said: "There have been many changes in television since I joined as a young reporter, but this is the most exciting development since the arrival of colour. After switchover, almost every Scottish home will be able to get at least 20 channels through their aerial."
