Malcolm Bruce MP today welcomed the announcement of Big Lottery Fund grants to three Aberdeenshire schools: Udny Green and Tarves Primary Schools and Meldrum Academy.
Malcolm is delighted with lottery grants for local schools
The funding is part of the first round of grants allocated from the 2014 Communities programme which allows community groups and organisations to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The three schools have a share of the total granted to the Shire by the 2014 Communities of £2,740.
While Udny Green School and Tarves Primary are both using their grants towards swimming lessons for pupils, Meldrum Academy is spending its grant on dance lessons and other aerobic activities.
Local MP Malcolm Bruce said:
"I am delighted that this support has been given to the schools to help fund programmes that will encourage children and young adults to develop their fitness in a fun way ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
"For those focussing on swimming in Udny Green and Tarves, it is a great boost to have such great swimming ambassadors in the North East including Inverurie's Hannah Miley. Hopefully the Lottery funding will help create an environment which will spark an interest for our next generation of swimming stars."
