Bruce says the "news will come as a relief to fire stations in Aberdeenshire."
Malcolm Bruce MP has welcomed news that talks in Brussels concerning Britain's opt-out from the Working Time Directive have collapsed.
The MP for Gordon who met earlier this month with Grampian's chief fire officer, Mr David Dalziel, and visited various rural fire stations to discuss the matter said:
"This news will come as a relief to fire stations in Aberdeenshire. If it had proceeded, the changes would have represented a large increase in cost and the centralising of services as many smaller, outlying firestations would have been forced to close.
"If there is to be a reintroduction of the directive in the next European Parliament after the June election, then we will need to ensure that retained firefighers will be exempt and not have to face a renewed threat."
