Bruce believe that "those Ghurkas who have risked their lives to serve this country should receive not only our gratitude, but the right to remain here."
Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce joined other Liberal Democrat MPs as part of a cross-party effort to overturn the Government's restrictive measures for those Ghurka veterans seeking to stay in the UK.
Earlier today the Government was defeated as MPs voted by 267 to 246 in favour of a Liberal Democrat motion that all Gurkhas should be offered an equal right of residence.
Mr Bruce said:
"I echo Nick Clegg in calling this a 'victory for decency'. A number of constituents have written to me on this matter and their opinions match my own as well as those of people across the country who simply believe that those Ghurkas who have risked their lives to serve this country should receive not only our gratitude, but the right to remain here.
After this hard-fought victory in Parliament today, the Government must listen and act quickly to scrap their stringent conditions so that all retired Gurkhas have the same rights of residence."
