Inverurie MP Malcolm Bruce has received a response from the Prime Minister to the pupils of Kelland's primary school.
The Gordon MP previously delivered the pupil's petition on global education to No 10 Downing Street as part of the Send My Friend to School campaign.
In his response the Prime Minister thanked the pupils for taking the time and trouble to write. The PM said that due to work on the education Millennium Development Goals more than 29 million children in Africa are now in lessons every day compared to the year 2000. He also acknowledged that more has yet to be done.
Mr Bruce who heads the International Development Select Committee in the House of Commons said:
"I am pleased that the Prime minister has responded to the pupil's at Kellands. He is right to say that there has been improvement in access to education for all. Through the work of the Select Committee however, I am only too aware that global leaders are still short on their promises. There are considerable obstacles to overcome such as conflict, shortage of access to clean water sanitation and a lack of qualified teachers. All these have an impact on the ability to provide education.
"Currently over 70 million children still do not get a chance to go to school. I would urge the Prime Minister to persuade other world leaders to fulfil their commitments to ensuring that every child in the world can complete a quality education by 2015."
