Bruce welcomes Aberdeen Met Office expansion
Malcolm welcome "the commitment being shown to Aberdeen by the Met Office management."
Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce today (Friday 6th November) welcomed the continuing expansion of the Aberdeen Met Office.
The MP was speaking after visiting the Met Office buildings in his Gordon constituency. Mr Bruce led in the cross-party campaign to save the office, which was threatened with closure in 2005.
Commenting, the Lib Dem MP said:
"I was delighted to note that the office now employs more people than it did at the time it was threatened with closure.
"The flooding in Huntly and Kintore (in my constituency) recently demonstrates the need for timely and accurate weather information. Climate change - which I discussed with the staff here today - means the need for such information is likely to increase in the future.
"The office provides a wide range of services to both the commercial and the public sector. It does a great deal of good work across Scotland and beyond. The decision to keep the office open has in my view been completely vindicated and I welcome the commitment being shown to Aberdeen by the Met Office management."
