Bruce to hold public meeting on Number 5 bus service

January 20, 2010 8:00 AM

Lib Dem MP for Bridge of Don Malcolm Bruce is to hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed changes to the FirstBus Aberdeen Number 5 service.

Recent changes proposed to the service mean that there will no longer be a direct link between Bridge of Don and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Bob Dorr, Managing Director of First in Aberdeen, will be attending the meeting, which will be held at 7pm on Thursday 28th January in the Assembly Hall at Oldmachar Acacdemy.

Commenting, Mr Bruce said:

"There have been a large number of representations regarding the proposed service changes.

"Clearly, the main area of concern is the loss of a direct link between Bridge of Don and the ARI site at Foresterhill. If this happens a large number of Bridge of Don residents, many of them elderly, will have no alternative but to go into the city centre and out again to get to ARI. Such a journey will be time consuming, inconvenient and expensive.

"There are also legitimate questions over how much support the service has received to date from outside bodies, and whether the route is profitable.

"As the proposals stand, I am deeply concerned that a large number of my constituents will lose out. I am pleased that Mr Dorr has agreed to attend what I hope will be a positive and constructive meeting."

If you are a resident of the Gordon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
