Malcolm Bruce MP presents Mr James Glennie with the Normandy Bar

Malcolm Bruce, the Liberal Democrat MP for Gordon, today presented Mr James Glennie with the Normandy Bar.

The Bar, awarded by Normandy Council, honours those who served on D-Day. Mr Glennie landed on D-Day with the 5th/7th Gordon Highlanders. He was wounded in action and subsequently captured, spending 6 months in a POW camp until freed by American forces. He currently works as a volunteer at the Gordon Highlanders museum.

Commenting, Mr Bruce said:

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to present the Normandy Bar to Mr Glennie. It is a small token of appreciation from the people of Normandy to those who fought to liberate them in 1944, and commemorates the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

"We should never forget the sacrifice of those like Mr Glennie who fought for freedom on D-Day.

Notes:

Malcolm Bruce wrote to Normandy Council to request the medal for Mr Glennie after he was unable to attend the 65th anniversary commemorations in Normandy itself.
