Scottish Premier Meat announcement ‘positive’ – Bruce

September 21, 2012 5:01 PM

Commenting on the news that Scottish Premier Meat and Mathers (Inverurie) are to be consolidated as part of an agreement that will see them move to a new facility at Thainstone, Liberal Democrat MP for Gordon Malcolm Bruce said:

"Given the difficulties that the meat processing industry has been facing, this is a positive announcement, which should secure the industry in the area for years to come.

"I hope that the consolidated firm will be able to maintain the vast majority of current employees of both companies. Clearly, it is disappointing that there may be some job losses as a result of the consolidation and I hope any individual who is made redundant will find a ready market for their skills and that local agencies will provide advice and support.

"The north east of Scotland has a well-deserved reputation for providing high-quality meat. I hope that this consolidation helps it to continue long into the future.

If you are a resident of the Gordon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
