“Let’s show Britain the best produce Aberdeenshire has to offer”- Bruce

September 25, 2012 11:37 AM

Gordon MP, Sir Malcolm Bruce MP is calling on local communities across Aberdeenshire to show their support and to get nominating local producers and businesses for this year's Countryside Alliance awards, also known as the 'Rural Oscars'.

The 8th annual awards are now open for public nomination until the 29th October. The Countryside Alliance awards were borne out of a need to support and promote rural communities and celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain's food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward thinking enterprises and most of its people can flourish.

Sir Malcolm said:

"These Awards are an excellent way to promote the local businessmen and women who are working hard to keep our local economy thriving- in some cases making a national name for themselves.

I truly believe that we are lucky enough to live in a region where our local produce is second to none. This is thanks to the many community heroes and businesses which are worthy of national recognition, and need our support and nominations. It would be fantastic if people could get behind our businesses and nominate them for the Awards so we can tell the whole of Britain a positive story about our corner of the country."

Further information is available on the Countryside Alliance's website www.countrysideallianceawards.org and the Awards run across the following categories:

  1. Local food Award
  2. Daily Telegraph Village Shop/ Post Office Award
  3. Enterprise Award
  4. Butcher Award
  5. Start-up Award: new for 2102 -for businesses who have been trading less than 18 months
