Bruce challenges Inverurie court decision12.30.08pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 31st Aug 2007
Local MP Malcolm Bruce has challenged the decision to close the District Court in Inverurie. In a letter to the Chief Executive of the Scottish Court Service, the Gordon MP asked to meet with the Scottish Court bosses to discuss the importance of keeping the court open to local residents. Mr Bruce said: "As well serving Inverurie, the District Court in the town deals with many other cases from across Garioch, Marr and Formantine. If it were to close, these residents would be forced to travel to Aberdeen to attend court or face the risk of paying fines. "I fully agree with Aberdeenshire Council leader Anne Robertson that any closure will have a hugely negative impact on the area, and I have written to the Chief Executive of the Scottish Courts Service to urge them to reconsider."
