The pupils tasked the Inverurie MP with giving their personal messages about global education to 10 Downing Street as part of the Send My Friend to School 2009 campaign- a campaign that Mr Bruce fully supports.

Mr Bruce who also heads the International Development Select Committee in the House of Commons said:

"I was delighted and honoured to be trusted with the task of presenting the Kellands' pupils' petitions to Number 10.

"We should be proud that the pupils at Kellands and another schools across the constituency, are determined to campaign for other children in the developing world to have access to an education as they have.

"Currently over 70 million children still do not get a chance to go to school. Progress will only happen if world leaders renew their efforts to meet the promise made at the turn of the Millennium: that every child in the world would complete a quality education by 2015."
